Class Action Lawsuit Planned for Tainted Milk

Lawyers in China are gearing up for a class action law suit for families whose children became ill as a result of ingesting milk that had been tainted. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the attorneys decided to proceed on Thursday with filing a class action claim against a dairy alleged to be responsible.
An estimated 100 families have a combined total of 15 lawyers advocating for their cases against Shijiazhuang Sanlu Group Co. The dairy is reportedly state-owned and an alleged contributor to the worst crisis involving food safety China has seen in years, the AP notes.
United States officials announced on Thursday that they would be disallowing the release of milk based products from China beyond ports until testing shows them to be safe. The milk was said to be contaminated with melamine, a chemical used to make products for cleaning and for other uses. Over 50,000 children were said to have fallen ill because of the contamination, and three reportedly died as a result.
